Believe the hype. The Raid: Redemption is one of the best action movies in years, maybe even decades.

This Indonesian movie, by Welsh-born director and writer Gareth Huw Edwards, has a plot that’s like a video game: a shock troop of Indonesian policemen raid the 30-story headquarters of a ruthless crime lord. They need to get to the top of the building and take him out.

But within that simple premise is a beautifully choreographed martial arts epic. I loved this movie for its lack of pretense or illusion. It is exactly what it says its going to be: a kick ass action movie, but one with fully drawn characters and a white-knuckle finale.

Trust me, it will leave you breathless.
